So the nt scan will usually happen alongside your routine dating scan its difficult to do the scan before 11 weeks because your baby is still so small it would also be too early to combine it with your first trimester blood test its too late to do the nt scan after 14 weeks as any excess nuchal fluid may be absorbed by your babys developing lymphatic system.
Nuchal translucency ultrasound alone can also provide this risk assessment but it is not as accurate as combined first trimester screening combined first trimester screening is a noninvasive way of assessing your risk which means it does not involve putting needles into the placenta or amniotic sac as happens with cvs and amniocentesis.

Nuchal scan nt procedure is performed between 11 and 14 weeks of gestation because the accuracy is best in this period the scan is obtained with the fetus in sagittal section and a neutral position of the fetal head neither hyperflexed nor extended either of which can influence the nuchal translucency thickness the fetal image is enlarged to fill 75 of the screen and the maximum thickness is.
Another test offered by some hospitals is a nuchal translucency scan performed during a dating scan this is when they measure the fluid at the back of the babys neck the more prominent the fluid space is the greater the risk can be of the baby either having a potential genetical problem.
